Byrd Electrical recently partnered with the Royal South Yarra Lawn Tennis Club to modernise the lighting system across their 15 tennis courts. The existing lighting setup was outdated, inefficient, and lacked flexibility, resulting in unnecessary energy usage. The club sought a reliable, modern solution to improve control over the lighting and reduce power consumption.
What The Client Was After
The client wanted a lighting solution that allowed individual control of each court’s lights, eliminating the need to rely on a single mechanical timer that left the lights on longer than necessary. The club also required a centralised control system that could be operated from their office, providing flexibility and the ability to manage the lighting schedule efficiently. Their goal was to reduce energy waste, improve sustainability, and create a user-friendly solution.
What Work Was Completed
After thorough research, we recommended and installed the Audacy Wireless Lighting Control System, which met the client’s need for flexibility and energy efficiency. This wireless system allowed for individual control of each court’s lighting, eliminating the need for extensive cabling and reducing installation costs. The system also included an automated control panel in the office, allowing staff to manage the lights remotely. We further integrated features such as an automatic shut-off system to ensure lights turned off when not in use, contributing to energy savings and efficiency.
The Advantages of Wireless Lighting Control Systems for Sports Facilities
Wireless lighting control systems offer a range of benefits for sports facilities, making them a superior choice for venues that require flexibility and efficiency. Here’s how they help:
- No Need for Extensive Cabling: Wireless systems eliminate the need for complex cabling, reducing installation time and costs while minimising disruption to the facility.
- Individualised Control for Multiple Areas: Each court or area can be controlled independently, allowing for greater flexibility in managing lighting based on specific usage or needs.
- Remote Access and Management: These systems can be controlled remotely, providing facility managers the ability to adjust lighting from anywhere, improving convenience and oversight.
- Easy Integration with Other Systems: Wireless lighting can be easily integrated with security and automation systems, creating a seamless, centralised control hub for facility operations.
- Scalability for Future Expansion: Wireless systems are easy to expand, making them ideal for growing facilities that may add more courts or other areas in the future.
How Automated Lighting Solutions Save Energy and Reduce Costs
Automated lighting solutions provide significant energy savings and operational efficiencies, particularly for large facilities with heavy lighting demands. Here’s why they are so effective:
- Automatic Shutoff for Energy Efficiency: Automated systems can be programmed to turn off lights when they’re not in use, eliminating the risk of leaving lights on unnecessarily and reducing energy waste.
- Customisable Scheduling for Peak Usage: Facility managers can set lighting schedules to match peak usage times, ensuring lights are only on when they are needed, reducing both energy use and costs.
- Remote Control for Convenience: Automated systems allow lighting to be controlled from a central location or remotely via apps, providing the flexibility to make real-time adjustments without being on-site.
- Lower Maintenance Costs: By reducing the usage time of lighting fixtures, automated systems extend the lifespan of lights, resulting in fewer replacements and lower maintenance costs.
- Optimised Energy Use with Sensors: Motion or daylight sensors can be integrated into the system to ensure lights are only activated when necessary, further optimising energy consumption.
The End Result
The installation of the Audacy Wireless Lighting Control System provided the club with a highly efficient, flexible solution. The new system allows for easy, centralised control of the court lighting and customisable scheduling for both summer and winter use. The automated power-off feature helped reduce unnecessary energy consumption, ensuring the lights are only on when needed. This modern, wireless system not only enhanced the club’s operational efficiency but also delivered significant energy and cost savings.
