The client had some amazing ideas for an incredible working space and a high-end office fit-out that was set to take place in the heart of Melbourne. When we were approached by this client, we were excited to hear about some of their initial ideas and the immense level of quality and detail that was required.
What The Client Was After
The client required a complete high-end office fit-out in Melbourne, featuring a bespoke colour-changing lighting system and automated blinds that adjusted based on the time of day and light levels. The lighting system also needed to integrate seamlessly with the security system. Additionally, the client wanted a clean, open-plan workspace, meaning that data cabling had to be discreetly hidden, especially around the sit-stand workstations.
What Work Was Completed
This project was something a little bit special; as such, we liaised with international lighting suppliers in order to source the highest quality solution to meet the precise needs of the client. We used a Phillips Dynalite lighting control system that delivered an easy yet flexible way to stay in control of all the different lighting requirements throughout. Due to the demand for electronic sit-stand desks, careful consideration was given to the cabling contribution to ensure that the city views out across Melbourne were not interrupted.
All the cabling that would typically be hidden was exposed through the mesh-type ceiling tiles, which allowed the glow from colour-changing lights to be seen. As such, we needed to fit the cables in a more aesthetically pleasing way than normal. Fully automated blinds helped to shade the office from any harsh or awkwardly placed sunlight.
Advanced Data Cabling Solutions for Open-Plan Workspaces
Strategically managing data cabling in open-plan offices is essential for maintaining both functionality and aesthetics. Here’s how we approach it:
- Concealed Cabling for Minimal Disruption: Data cabling is routed through structural beams, underfloor pathways, or within walls to keep it out of sight, preventing clutter and preserving the open-plan aesthetic.
- Future-Proofing with Flexible Cable Management: Modular and flexible cabling systems are installed, allowing for easy upgrades or reconfigurations as the workspace evolves without needing major rewiring.
- High-Speed Connectivity with Structured Cabling Systems: We use structured cabling solutions, such as CAT6 or fibre optic, to ensure high-speed, reliable data connections that support the increasing demand of modern office equipment and cloud-based applications.
- Maintaining Signal Integrity: Shielded cables and proper separation from electrical wiring are used to prevent signal interference, ensuring optimal performance for network systems and communications.
Energy-Efficient Office Lighting Systems
Energy efficiency is crucial in modern office spaces. We focus on implementing lighting solutions that not only cut costs but also improve the working environment. Here’s how we achieve this:
- Automated Lighting Systems: Smart lighting systems are installed with motion sensors and timers, automatically adjusting based on occupancy and daylight levels to reduce unnecessary energy usage.
- LED Lighting for Reduced Consumption: Energy-efficient LED fixtures are used, which consume significantly less electricity than traditional lighting while providing brighter, more uniform light distribution.
- Zoned Lighting Control: The workspace is divided into zones, allowing specific areas to be illuminated only when in use, further reducing power consumption.
- Integration with Building Management Systems: Lighting systems are integrated with the office’s overall building management system (BMS), allowing centralised control and monitoring of energy usage in real time.
- Daylight Harvesting: Automated systems that adjust artificial lighting based on the amount of natural daylight in the office, ensuring the right balance of light while saving energy.
The End Result
An impressive, modern, yet highly functional lighting system throughout. The flexible open-plan workspace was completely supported by high-end data cabling that was safely out of sight. Structural beams were utilised to conceal the cabling and mount outlets, and a completely transparent cable management solution ensured the client had the style of office they wanted.
Due to the connectivity between the security systems and the lighting system, the first and last person to leave the office would automatically activate and deactivate the lighting system; this provided an exceptionally cost and energy-efficient control solution.
